About The Winnow Podcast

The Winnow is a podcast about dining in the South and beyond. Join the Post and Courier's food editor and chief critic Hanna Raskin and Southern Living's Contributing Barbecue Editor Robert Moss each week as they dive into current topics in the food world ranging from the South's newest restaurants to boiled peanut season. They might even sample a few local dishes on-air. (They've learned to chew quietly.)

Past guests have included included noted bartender Tiffanie Barriere, pitmaster Rodney Scott, and food editor Kathleen Purvis of the Charlotte Observer. A new episode is released every Wednesday.

About the name: The Winnow reflects the show's primary objective, which is to focus on the stuff that really matters—to separate the wheat from the chaff, or, to be more regionally-appropriate, the rice from the hull. The name is also a tribute to Charleston's history of rice production: fanner baskets, replicated in sweetgrass for visitors to buy as souvenirs, were originally designed to winnow rice grains.

The Winnow is a production of the Post & Courier and Palmetto New Media. Our producer is the estimable and resourceful J. Emory Parker.

The theme song for The Winnow is from The Bluestone Ramblers.
